Love Letters
What are YOU doing Wednesday night? Oh, you’re busy? That’s okay, because Love Letters, a nouveaux burlesque/cabaret show fronted by the lovely Pastel Supernova is happening on Thursday night as well. If for some reason you need more incentive than the word “burlesque” to make you want to go to this show, check out the above behind the scenes video, shot by my good...

Ma Contrexpérience
My mother sent me this video, not because of the main “performer”, but because this concept is an example of “new media”. YES! I think she gets the whole new media thing more than I do sometimes. This commercial is actually for a brand of Mineral Water owned by Nestle. The commercial was made by Marcel, and advertising agency in France. This commercial definitely looks...

NINJAS!
Okay, not ninjas, but ninjabread men. Yay for Christmas baking! As you can tell, I do not have the hand of a surgeon, resulting in some shaky lines, but I think you get the point. The last dudes are just kind of scary, but I was hypnotized by the ninjas at this point in the decorating process. Thanks Jules for the ninja cookie cutters!

How Do You Judge?
Clever ad by Tuxedo Agency featuring Rico Genest aka Zombie Boy, who, thanks to Lady Gaga, has become a pop culture sensation since being featured in her ‘Born This Way’ music video. The ad, which is for Dermablend Professional Coverage Cosmetics, transforms Genest’s skin to be tattoo free, a look he hasn’t experienced since the age of 16 when he got his first tattoo. I...
#thankful
So thankful for this amazing meal that I got to share with my family yesterday for Thanksgiving. My mom is definitely the hero in this one, but I’d like to believe I was a mighty fine sous-chef! I hope you all have a lovely Thanksgiving, whoever you are with and wherever you are!

Bicycle!
You know when you were a kid, and it was kind of okay to want to marry an inanimate object, like a bike, for example? You know what I’m talking about:
Kid #1: “I love my bike.”
Kid #2: “Well then why don’t you marry it?”
Kid #1: “Maybe I will.”
Yeah, you’ve been there. Is it wrong that I still feel that way? Okay, okay, so maybe I...

I Apologize in Advance...
..for the fact that when I eventually return to Toronto, I’m totally going to be the girl that no one wants to talk to, because all I will talk about is biking and how stoked I am on it. You’ve been warned. The above clip is from Follow Me; makes me want to go back to NZ, but with a bike.
Also: I think I am going to put this blog on hiatus for a month or so. I’ve started The...

Candy: Is it Food?
This morning, I decided to listen to an episode of Evan Kleiman’s Good Food podcast, which airs on KCRW. After browsing through a few episodes in the archives, I saw a recent episode that had a segment based on candy, so I had to have a listen. If you know me, you know I LOVE candy, and cannot control myself around the colourful and sugary, stomach-rotting substance.
I immediately...

PressPausePlay
I went on to watch the teaser for this film, and what stood out to me was when producer Ted Hope asks “How do you make a work that will stand the test of time?”.
Although this question is probably quite a common one, I found it quite interesting, and it got me thinking about the term “disposable art”, a term that has undoubtedly been tossed around plenty of times in...

Kreayshawn - Gucci Gucci. Apparently she has a website and got a full scholarship to Berkeley Film School. Right. Also: feather earrings. Dare I say, Whistler started this trend over a year ago? Just throwin’ it out thurr.

All In
Fine, this song is probably old news (in the rapidly changing world of the Internet, anyway) but I’m really digging it. This video gets me pretty pumped too (way to go Adidas marketing, I feel like I should go run a marathon now). I think this is going to be on repeat on my gym/running playlist! Wait… if it’s the only song in my playlist, is it still a playlist? I guess not....

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN (2007)
TRON (1982)
moviebarcode is the representation of films through colour bars; a new way of visualizing films. Through these graphics, you can see how some movies are much darker than others, and when movies enter other realms (e.g. digital realm in TRON) you can see at what point in the film that occurs because of the strong...

My little piece of Privacy
Simple but clever installation that makes an ordinary object & space stand out.
“My workshop is located in an old storefront with a big window facing towards the street. In an attempt to create more privacy inside, I’ve decided to install a small but smart curtain in that window. The curtain is smaller than the window, but an additional surveillance camera and an old laptop...

Addicted to Awesome
Last month, while visiting some friends and family back in Toronto, I got to catch up with my good friends from Addicted to Awesome in Liberty Village’s School Bakery & Cafe. During breakfast, Steph pulled out a handful of goodies—handmade necklaces—and allowed me to pick one to call my own (thank you S & A!). I opted for the black rabbit, not realizing until later (due...

When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried?
Me: Today. Why? Number 29.
Thank you Volker for posting the following instructions to Facebook (which, in turn, showed up in my news feed):

2. Click on ‘get directions’.
3. Type in USA as the start point.
4. Type in China as the end point.
5. Read direction number 29.
